Finding comfort in the sounds and the rhythm of the person you are portraying can help to unlock the magic of your performance.
Services
ACCENTS ONE TO ONE
This course serves individuals who are keen to build confidence in a particular accent, or prepare for an audition or role. Actors will cover what we believe to be the basic principles required for accent acquisition, according to the Knight-Thompson Speechwork pedagogy. These include:
PEOPLE – exploring the cultural and social nature of a particular community, specifically asking questions that may in some way impact their shared accent
ORAL POSTURE – where do the articulators within the vocal tract comfortably sit in order to generate the sounds of a particular accent with ease and comfort
PRONUNCIATION – what are the key consonant and vowel sounds that represent this accent, and how do we identify the patterns they follow using lexical sets
PROSODY – the musicality of an accent, including the rhythm, intonation, stress patterns, pacing, flow and more
FEES: £60 / hour or 6 sessions for £300
ACCENT WORKSHOPS
If you are looking to add a range of accents to your Spotlight page, we offer workshops for groups of up to five actors in specific accents of your choice. These are most commonly Modern Received Pronunciation and So Called ‘General American’, but we develop bespoke workshops according to demand. These might include, but are not restricted to: Liverpudlian, Mancunian, Belfast, Glaswegian, Edinburgh, Southern American, French, New York and more.
All you need to do is agree on which 3 accents you would like to learn, and let us know with time before the first session so that we can prepare.
Each course includes:
An introduction to how accents work: 1.5 hours
3 sessions on 3 accents: 2.5 hours each
Final review session: 1 hour
This totals 10 hours of tuition
Sessions can be weekly, or intensive, timetables permitting.

Extra participants or extra accents can be added at further cost.
THE ACCENT REHEARSAL ROOM
The Accent Rehearsal Room is a three week online group challenge for participants who wish to learn Modern Received Pronunciation (Modern RP).
You will receive daily instructions via email, in both written and video form, that outline your challenge for that day, and you will be encouraged to share your progress with the group by video or voice recording. Plenty of material will be provided each day for you to peruse and focus on to help you complete your daily tasks.
Feedback for other participants is optional, and at the end of each week, a specific review challenge will be given.
By the end of the course, you will have a selection of short monologues to choose from that you will upload to demonstrate your progress.
There will also be a one hour Q and A will the founder of The Accent Centre, James Bailey, where you can ask any final questions you might like resolved before your course is complete.
FEES: £35 in total for the 21 day course
PRODUCTION COACHING FOR STAGE AND SCREEN
The Accent Centre can be hired for accent and dialect coaching for cast on stage and screen productions.
We will take responsibility for preparing all actors, and can be present on set to ensure continuity of accent accuracy in film and television, or can be available on agreed dates for rehearsals and performances in theatre.
